FROM FARMS TO CORRIDORS

How Hoffman Estates became a village with two connected sides

Six photographs show the change from farm country to neighborhoods, employment, events, preserved land, and today's moving corridors.

  1. origin

    Homes become a village

Sam and Jack Hoffman bought 160 acres in 1954, opened Parcel A homes in 1955, and residents incorporated in 1959; a 1960 federal aerial shows the new village amid farms.

    Annexation follows the tollway

Northward annexations doubled village land by 1962, while the population nearly tripled by 1970; a 1972 federal aerial shows neighborhoods spreading along the Northwest Tollway.
